School Meals

At Perivale Primary School, we’re passionate about promoting health and well-being in every aspect of our students’ lives. We strive to empower our pupils with the knowledge and understanding of how their choices impact their health. By encouraging them to take responsibility for their actions, we help them make informed decisions. This dedication extends to the nutritious food we provide and the healthy eating habits we foster within our school community.

Free School Meals

Thanks to the London Mayor’s initiative, school dinners are free for all students for the current academic year. Alternatively, if you prefer, your child can bring a packed lunch every day.

Healthy and nutritious Meals

Our school meals are prepared on-site daily by ISS Food Services. They provide fresh and healthy meals, catering to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences. We offer both Halal and non-Halal meal options daily, and our current menu does not include pork or beef.

We encourage all children to choose a hot school meal. Daily meal options include:

  • Meat or fish
  • Vegetarian choice
  • Freshly baked bread
  • Salad bar
  • Dessert and/or fresh fruit/yoghurt

Nutritional Benefits

Our school meals are designed to provide essential nutrients that support children’s growth, development, and overall health. Key nutritional benefits include:

  • Balanced Diet: Meals include a variety of food groups, ensuring a balanced intake of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, and minerals.
  • Whole Grains: Incorporating whole grains helps provide sustained energy and supports digestive health.
  • Fruits and Vegetables: A wide selection of fruits and vegetables ensures that children receive important vitamins, minerals, and fiber.
  • Low in Sugar and Salt: Meals are prepared with minimal added sugars and salts to promote heart health and prevent obesity.
  • Healthy Fats: Using healthy fats, such as those from olive oil and avocados, supports brain development and overall well-being

Meals are planned around a three-week menu cycle, meeting all government dietary requirements for schools. Take a look at our current menu! Meals are served in the main hall, where children eat together with their class.

Special Themed Days

To make meal time even more exciting, we have special themed days throughout the year. These themed days feature fun and nutritious meals, along with activities that align with the theme.

Registration for Further Funding Free School Meals

In addition to providing a free school meal, the government also allocates additional funding to the school for every eligible pupil. This applies to families on a low income or those receiving benefits. Please let us know if your child is eligible, even if they do not want to take the free school meal option. We use this additional funding to hire more staff and obtain resources that help improve the quality of education.

To find out whether your child qualifies for free school meals, and hence whether the school would receive additional funding, please fill in the details requested on the:

Free school meals – Frequently Asked Questions

A Certificate of Eligibility is available through the website for any child eligible for a free school meal attending a school in England. The Certificate of Eligibility should be brought into school.

Allergies, Food Intolerance, and Medical Conditions

If your child has a food allergy, intolerance, or medical condition such as Coeliac disease or diabetes, please contact the school office to complete a health care form and arrange contact with a member of staff from our catering provider. You will be asked to complete a form, and the caterers may request a face-to-face meeting to discuss your child’s dietary requirements.

Packed Lunches & Snacks

Children should bring a healthy fruit snack for break time. Children in Early Years and Years 1 and 2 will be given a piece of fruit for morning break as part of the fruit for schools scheme.

If you choose for your child to bring lunch from home, please remember that we are a nut-free school. Please do not include any nut products in your child’s lunch or snack box. We cannot reheat lunches brought from home.

Fun Fact: Did you know that eating a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables can help you get a wide range of nutrients? Each color provides different vitamins and minerals that are essential for your body. So, make your plate a rainbow!
