Our School Day at Perivale Primary School

We are committed to providing a well-structured and balanced day that optimizes both learning and recreational time for our children helping them thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Nursery Class:

• 30hr children attend both sessions and stay for lunch in-between.
• 15hr children attend either the morning or afternoon session.

Reception Class – A Day in the Life of Reception Class

From phonics and to story time and free play, every day is busy in our Reception class!

Activities are planned throughout the day, encouraging your child to talk, read, play games, write, and create. Learning through play enables your child to develop essential life skills such as sharing, taking turns, trying new things in a relaxed environment, decision-making, and developing friendships.

Your child will participate in whole-class activities such as PE, story time, and music. At other times, they will work in small groups with an adult. We also encourage children to collaborate with friends or engage in independent learning.

We provide a daily healthy mid-morning snack, children are able to have a piece of fruit or vegetable which is provided by the school. Lunchtime is another opportunity for your child to enjoy a nutritious meal and develop socially.

Drop-off: Bring your child to the classroom door and allow them to make their own way into class to encourage independence.

Years 1 – 6:

• Morning Arrival: Students arrive and settle into their classrooms.
• Morning Lessons: Core subjects such as Reading, Maths, and Writing.
• Comfort Break: A short break to relax and enjoy a snack.
• Mid-Morning Lessons: Subjects like Science, Humanities, Arts, and PE.
• Lunch: Nutritious lunch and free time to play.
• Afternoon Lessons: Project-based activities and collaborative work.
• End of the School Day: Students are dismissed, and parents/carers collect their child.

Start and End of the Day (Reception – Year 6 ):

• Start: School begins at 8:40 am.
• End: School concludes at 3:15 pm.

Breaks and Lunchtime:

• Comfort Break: 15-minute morning break.
• Lunchtime: 1 hour for lunch and recreational activities.

Overall School Hours:

• Daily Schedule: 6 hours and 30 minutes.
• Weekly Schedule: 32.5 hours.

Please note that timetables may change for special activities. We will inform parents/carers of any changes.

Drop-off and Collection

Parents are encouraged to come into the school at the beginning and end of the school day. Class Teachers are available for chats after school to build strong home-school relationships.
If normal arrangements change (e.g., delays or different pick-up person), please inform the school office to avoid confusion.

Some children walk to and from school alone with parental permission.

Promoting Safe Travel

Walking is the best way to get to and from school. It’s healthier, safer, and respects parking regulations. We ask vehicle users to park considerately.
Cycling or scootering are great alternatives, with bike and scooter racks available.

If traveling by car, plan journeys carefully and avoid dangerous parking. This ensures a safer environment for all students.

We are part of the Ealing Safe Travel scheme and encourage walking, cycling, or public transport to limit traffic around the school.
