What is Pupil Premium?

Initially introduced in April 2011, the pupil premium grant is designed to address inequality by giving every school and teacher the resources they need to help their most disadvantaged pupils, allowing them the freedom to respond appropriately to individual circumstances.
The purpose of the Pupil Premium Grant is to provide funding in order to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils and “close the gap” with their peers.
Eligibility for the pupil premium grant for 2015 to 2016 include pupils who have received free school meals (FSM) in any of the previous 6 years and those first known to be eligible at January 2015. It is also aimed at children who were looked after or who left local authority care on a special guardianship order or child arrangements order, collectively referred to as post-LAC, and at children who were eligible for the service child premium in any of the previous 4 years or currently, according to the school census data.

At Perivale Primary School, the grant is spent in a variety of ways. The range of provision includes:

• Facilitating pupils’ access to education
• Facilitating pupils’ access to broader curriculum opportunities
• Additional teaching and learning opportunities
• Alternative support and intervention
